Uncle Murphy Hard At Work

Yesterday was the last day for video submissions for the "Best Video Contest" here at :piksie.com. And looks like, as expected, Uncle Murphy was hard at work.

Murphy's Law states: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". If you spend enough time in a corporate position or building something, whether it's a web application or a nuclear powered submarine, you will eventually have a first-hand experience of Murphy's Law. And over time, you'll get so accustomed to dealing with last minute issues that you will start referring to this phenomenon as "Uncle Murphy", as I do :-)

Unfortunately, one of our producers missed the deadline by a few minutes yesterday and as a result, his/her video won't be in the contest. In his/her own admission, there was some procrastination involved. I actually believe, procrastionation is a close cousin of Uncle Murphy and they often work together. That's one of the reasons why through my blog, I was urging everyone to submit their videos as early as possible and not wait till the last minute.

Another incident involved anohter producer who actually was able to submit her video before the deadline but our video processor ran into some issues with her video due to video's frame size. And the video was not processed till this morning. This small glitch did not affect her entry because the time stamp for her video submission was several hours before the deadline.

All in all, we're pleased with the contest and the videos we were able to attract into :piksie.com's library through the excitement it created.

Now, the task at hand is making the decision on who the winner will be. We certainly have some very deserving videos. But as in all contests and competitions, there has to be only one winner. That's not to mean that only one video is worthy of an award.

Especially in this contest, I can think of many videos that well meet the criteria we came up with: value provided to consumers and production quality.

With that said, we will announce the winner tomorrow. So don't forget to place your bets with your bookie "Cranky Sammy"
